Onam Celebration

Yet another show by Marian MCA. Onam was celebrated on the 27th and 28th of August, 2009 in the college. Onam sadhyas were arranged on the 26th night in the respective hostels by III MCA.

The Onam sadhya at the boys hostel was an occation to remember. The food, Mahabali (Gini Philip George of III MCA dressed up), songs (even our lady teachers came forward to sing), drums and at last the movie 'Spadikam' (everyone in the hostel including the warden came together in the messhall to watch it).

And of prizes in the competitons, we couldn't bag everything like the Independence day celebrations. But we did win some. And like last time, there did errupt a small fight between the students. The same reason - tug of war comeptition. It gets to the heart and mind of the students. Emotions errupt. Still, atlast, everything was concluded in an amiable fashion.

2MCA's Industrial Visit

Our MCA 2008-2011 batch , started the industrial visit with two faculty members Mr.Satheesh Kumar and Mrs.Raji R.Nair. 56 students are participated in the visit. It was a two day trip (17-08-09 and 18-08-09). Habeebu Rahman, one of our classmate co-ordinated the industrial visit.
The trip was full of amazing experiences. Our journey started from Kuttikkanam on 17-08-09 with a small prayer. We reach Pathanapuram and had breakfast at 8.00am and we reached Trivandrum. We took rooms there at hotel ‘Al-Saj’ and had a half an hour rest. After lunch we set our mind to ISRO. Ajesh Philip, our leader went to ISRO to ask for permission to visit. We reached ISRO at 1.00pm. One of the eminent person of ISRO ‘Mr.Vettor Sasi’ described the full history of ISRO. We saw so many models of satellites there he told that , the first satellite from India was ‘Aryabhata’. Under the leadership of Dr.A.P.J Abdhul Kalam a vehicle to launch a satellite was build. The first such vehicle was SLV. It was small, it contain only a small satellite, because of this drawback the ASLV, GSLV, PSLV was bulid. At last India was successful in launching a good satellite. He showed us the videos of that launch too. Another successful mission was the ‘CHANDRAYAN’, a satellite to moon which gives the photos of moon with good quality. At the end of its description he told that we all can do something for the improvement of such launch in ISRO and he welcomed us for that. After the visit we went to Kovalam and spend the whole evening there. We returned back to our rooms at 6.30pm and after dinner we had a good sleep.

Next day on 18-08-09 we started our journey after breakfast at 7.30am. Then we reached ‘Pathmanabapuram’ palace at 10.30am, took entry pass and went inside. There was a guide to explain about the palace. We took so many photos inside the palace. After that we left palace at 12.30pm and reached Kanyakumari at 2.00pm.
After lunch we went to ‘Vivekanantha Rock’. On that day we spend onehour for purchasing also. After that we went to see the sunset, then we set our journey back to our college. At 9.15pm we had dinner. At 4.30am on 19-08-09 we reached our Marian campus.
After this amazing trip we got a lot of information about ISRO. We got an opportunityto mingle with each other and we so thank our department for arranging such an amazing trip.

A small blunder

This is an incident that happened on the 14th of August 2009.

I think most of my readers know about the rules at Maryknoll hostel (PG - men). For those who are unaware of it, let me explain. Students are allowed to go till the college junction till 6.30 p.m. without permission. If anyone has to set foot outside that or be a minute late, you got to get prior permission from Fr. James, the hostel warden. If you are unable to see him personally and take permission, you can write a permission letter and slide it under his door. So thats the rule.

Now, let me introduce you to the key character of this incident Mr. avn (fake name). He is smart and talented, the person who usually comes up with killer ideas.

Now for the incident. A batch of students, including Mr. avn, on one fine morning decided to go for a movie. The theater is not at the college junction, so obviously, they had to take permission. But they couldn't find Fr. James anywhere. So instead they wrote a permission letter and slid it under his door. Now all set to go, the batch moves to the college junction to catch a bus. Oh !!! but thats when the bad news hits them. The movie they intended to see has moved on from the theater. With saddened hearts and heavy minds they all return to the hostel.

Now that they havn't gone for the movie, why leave the permission letter under wardens door. So they decided to take it back. But, how ??? Its under the warden's door. Thats when avn, as usual, comes up with a mind blowing idea. Put a hanger through the small space under the door and pull the letter out. Everyone agreed to that. Again avn takes the lead. He goes and brings back a hanger. And ya, they all are really cautious. First they ring the warden's door bell and waited to see if he was in. Since nobody came out, they set up security around the place. Some gaurded the stairs, others scattered around to see if the warden was coming. Avn lies down on the floor infront of the door and puts the hanger under it to search.

Now lets imagine. What would happen if the door suddenly opens and the warden comes out of it ??? What would that look like ??? What would our poor avn do ??? Anyways thats exactly what happened in the next few seconds. Nobody knows why the fr. James didn't come out at the first place. Anyways, when he appeared at he door, the gaurds ran for their lives. Poor avn, lying down on the floor, couldn't even nudge. The rest of it is hear say. I am not sure, if its true. Its goes like, avn held on to the wardens legs and asked for his blessings. Whatever it was, all the hostelites had a nice time discussing it later.

Raksha bandan day celebration

Hi friends...

We celebrated Raksha Bandhan yesterday in our classroom. Our class rep Mr.Gini Philip gave an introduction about the program. Then Mr.Rohith Vijay gave a talk about the concept and importance of the Raksha Bandhan day.

Nothing captures the essence of a relationship between a brother and sister like the wonderful Indian Festival ‘Raksha Bandhan'. Raksha means to 'protect', and Bandhan means 'bond', therefore Rakhi is a bond of protection. Each year on Rakhi day, sister tie a Rakhi or an amulet around their brother's wrist as a protecting charm. They appeal to God to always protect her brother and bestow all happiness upon them.

Our girls tied the Rakhi on their brother's hands.
Our sincere thanks to Satheesh sir who gave us an opportunity to conduct the program.
