Google buys Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion

Google stunned the high-tech world on Aug. 15 with an offer to buy Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI) for $12.5 billion. The company's largest purchase ever should give the search engine its much-needed patent protection.

Google agreed to pay $40.00 per share in cash, a premium of 63 percent over Motorola Mobility's Aug. 12 closing price. Ending regulatory approval, the bid is slated to close by the end of 2011 or in early 2012.

Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android, which will remain available to other hardware makers under an open-source license. Google intends to run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.

The patent wars  and the ability to own and control an Android hardware maker are what made Google pull the trigger on this deal, as Google CEO Larry Page said it will entitle him to "supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing."

"Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies," Page added. "Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers."

Life lessons from a pencil!!!

In the beginning, the Pencil Maker spoke to the pencil saying, There are five things you need to know before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be.
You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand. First:
You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but this is required if you are to become a better pencil. Second:
You have the ability to correct any mistakes you might make. Third:
The most important part of you will always be what's inside. Fourth:
No matter what the condition, you must continue to write. You must always leave a clear, legible mark no matter how difficult the situation. Fifth:
The pencil understood, promising to remember, and went into the box fully understanding its Maker's purpose. Now put yourself in place of the pencil; always remember it and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.

An Introduction To Facebook Questions

Do you know that Facebook has recently launched a “Questions” feature which can be used to ask questions to all or specific Facebook friends of your choice?
Facebook Questions is designed in such a way that you can get answers from any Facebook user, without having to ask the same question to each of your friends separately. So if you’re planning a holiday trip or need advice on buying a product from Amazon.com, it might be a good idea to ask a question on Facebook and see the reaction of your Facebook friends.
In this short tutorial, we will explore Facebook questions and see how this feature can be put to good use.
How to Ask a Question To Your Facebook Friends
On your Facebook news feed or profile page, click the Questions link and type your question in the text area, as shown in the following illustration:

Click it, and you can use your computer’s microphone to enter your search string! Just wait until you get the box that says “Speak now” and you’re good to go! It’s just like the Android smart-phone interface!

A small tip for you..

When we have too many programs open at the same time and can't remember which icon belongs to which program on the toolbar, is there an easy way to tell which button is which?

By hovering over an item, a balloon should come up telling you what the program is.

One easy way to switch between programs you have open is to hit Alt+Tab . A small box will pop up with icons for all the currently open programs (even settings windows that don't display on the tool bar - like display properties for instance).

Hold down Alt , then simply hit Tab until the window you're looking for is highlighted. Notice that as you tab, the title bar information is displayed.

Oh, also—hold down the Alt+Shift key while hitting Tab to go backwards through the list.

Open a couple of programs and try it. Happy hunting

Sardarji to Bill Gates

Dear Mr Bill Gates,

This letter is from Banta Singh from Punjab. We have bought a
computer for our home and we found problems, which I want to bring to
your notice.

1. After connecting to internet we planned to open e-mail account and
whenever we fill the form in Hotmail in the password column, only ****** appears, but in the rest of the fields whatever we typed appears, but we face this problem only in password field.

We checked with hardware vendor Santa Singh and he said that there is no problem in keyboard. Because of this we open the e-mail account with password *****.

I request you to check this as we ourselves do not know what the
password is.

Crisis Management... Anyone can try.....

A new manager spends a week at his new office with the manager he is replacing. On the last day the departing manager tells him, "I have left three numbered envelopes in the desk drawer. Open an envelope if you encounter a crisis you can't solve."

Three months down the track there is major drama, everything goes wrong - the usual stuff - and the manager feels very threatened by it all.

He remembers the parting words of his predecessor and opens the first envelope. The message inside says "Blame your predecessor!" He does this and gets off the hook.

About half a year later, the company is experiencing a dip in sales, combined with serious product problems. The manager quickly opens the second envelope. The message read, "Reorganize!" This he does, and the company quickly rebounds.

Three months later, at his next crisis, he opens the third envelope. The message inside says "Prepare three envelopes"

In 2020 We Can Wear Sony Computers On Our Wrist

Our present need for internet connectivity is so profound that secondary devices like the Nextep Computer are bound to happen. Developed to be worn as a bracelet, this computer concept is constructed out of a flexible OLED touchscreen. Earmarked for the year 2020, features like a holographic projector (for screen), pull-out extra keyboard panels and social networking compatibility, make the concept plausible. Ten years from now is not too far away, so how many of you think we’d be buying such gadgets?

The Group Stage is Over, So Now the Real World Cup Can Begin…

That headline makes it sound like I hated the group stages. I did’t. I enjoyed the group stages. They were an enjoyable way to whittle the World Cup down from 32 to 16 teams, and there was plenty of fun along the way. But we all know the knockout rounds are better. For all kinds of reasons.
