The PG Department of Computer Applications conducted a Counselling Orientation Program for the newly admitted First Year MCA students on 29th July 2025. The primary objective of the session was to provide academic, psychological, and emotional support to the freshers and help them transition smoothly into their postgraduate academic journey.
The session began with a warm and thoughtful introduction by Mr. Melvin Mathew, who welcomed the students and faculty members. He briefly explained the purpose of the orientation and introduced the guest speakers, Mr. Anna Marie Nainan and Ms. Elizabeth Abraham, both representing the Department of Health and Fitness.
Ms. Elizabeth Abraham addressed the students by emphasizing the importance of counselling in academic and personal development. She explained how students often encounter stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges during their studies, and how counselling can act as a supportive mechanism to manage these issues. She spoke about the advantages of seeking counselling, highlighting its role in improving concentration, managing emotions, and fostering overall well-being. Her talk aimed to eliminate the stigma surrounding counselling and encouraged students to approach it as a positive step toward self-improvement.
Following her session, Mr. Anna Marie Nainan provided a comprehensive overview of the Marian Counselling Department. She elaborated on the services offered and introduced the faculty counsellors available on campus. She encouraged students to freely make use of the counselling facilities whenever needed and reassured them of the confidentiality and approachability of the department. She also noted that faculty members are equally welcome to utilize the counselling services, thereby promoting a campus culture rooted in empathy, openness, and support.
