Research Connect 2026 – MOU Signing & Faculty Interaction

 

The PG Department of Computer Applications, Marian College Kuttikkanam (Autonomous) organized Research Connect 2026 – MOU Signing & Faculty Interaction on 02 July 2026 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the MCA Department. The session was coordinated by Ms. Kochumol Abraham and featured Dr. Aswini T. D., Executive Editor, Eduschool Academic Research and Publishers, as the resource person.



The programme aimed to strengthen research collaborations through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and to enhance faculty members' understanding of quality research publication practices. During the interactive session, Dr. Aswini provided valuable insights into the step-by-step process of publishing research papers in reputed journals. The discussion covered identifying research problems, conducting an effective literature review, selecting appropriate journals, manuscript preparation, ethical publication practices, avoiding plagiarism, the peer-review process, responding to reviewers' comments, and strategies for improving the visibility and impact of research publications.






The session also highlighted the importance of selecting journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and UGC-CARE, maintaining research integrity, and adhering to publisher guidelines. Faculty members actively participated in the interaction, raising queries related to journal selection, indexing, publication timelines, and research collaborations.




The programme concluded with the formalization of the MoU and a fruitful interaction that encouraged faculty members to pursue high-quality research and publications. The event served as an excellent platform for promoting a strong research culture and fostering academic collaborations within the department.

The PG Department of Computer Applications successfully organized SensorSync – A One-Day Workshop on IoT Sensors on 30 June 2026 from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The workshop aimed to provide students with practical knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, sensors, and cloud-based IoT platforms through interactive sessions and hands-on activities.

The distinguished resource persons for the workshop were:

The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Kochumol Abraham.

The program commenced with a warm welcome to the resource persons and participants by Ms. Riya George, who introduced the guests and highlighted the importance of IoT technologies in today's connected world.



The first technical session was handled by Mr. Badhusha Shaji, who conducted an engaging ice-breaking session to familiarize students with the fundamentals of the Internet of Things. He explained the basic concepts of IoT, its real-world applications, and introduced commonly used development boards such as Arduino and ESP-based microcontrollers. His interactive approach encouraged active participation and helped students understand the foundations of embedded systems.

The second session was led by Mr. Nikhil T. Das, who provided an in-depth explanation of various IoT sensors, their working principles, and their applications in real-world projects. He also introduced students to different IoT development platforms used for building and managing smart systems. During the session, he demonstrated NuroX, an IoT platform developed by his team, explaining how IoT devices can be connected, monitored, and deployed using Cloudflare services for secure cloud-based communication and management. The session offered valuable insights into modern IoT deployment techniques and industry practices.



The final session focused on practical learning through a hands-on workshop using Tinkercad. The resource persons demonstrated virtual circuit design, the use of breadboards, LEDs, and different sensors in electronic circuits. Students learned how LEDs respond under various conditions using sensors and simple programming logic. They also gained practical experience in building basic IoT circuits, understanding breadboard connections, and simulating embedded applications using Tinkercad. This practical exposure enabled participants to connect theoretical concepts with real-world implementation.

The workshop concluded with a feedback session, during which students shared their learning experiences and appreciated the interactive nature of the program. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Amal Thomas, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource persons for sharing their expertise, the program coordinator Ms. Kochumol Abraham for organizing the workshop, the faculty members for their support, and all the students for their enthusiastic participation.



Overall, SensorSync proved to be an informative and engaging workshop that enhanced students' understanding of IoT technologies, sensors, embedded systems, cloud integration, and practical circuit design. The workshop successfully inspired participants to explore further innovations in the rapidly evolving field of the Internet of Things.

INTERNATIONAL ANTI-DRUG DAY

The PG Department of Computer Applications observed International Anti-Drug Day on 29 June 2026 from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM in the II MCA Classroom. The programme was conducted in accordance with the circular and the approved pledge issued by the District Social Justice Office, Idukki, with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging them to lead a healthy, responsible, and drug-free life.



All the students actively participated in the Anti-Drug Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to staying away from drugs and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The pledge was administered as per the approved format provided by the District Social Justice Office, Idukki.



As part of the awareness programme, the II MCA students presented a short awareness video based on the theme "Choose Sports, Not Drugs." The video effectively conveyed the message that engaging in sports, physical activities, and positive hobbies can help young people avoid substance abuse and develop a disciplined and healthy lifestyle. The creative presentation received appreciation from the participants for its meaningful message and impactful visual storytelling.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the students to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to contribute towards building a drug-free society. The observance successfully reinforced the values of healthy living, personal responsibility, and social awareness among the students.


IDEA TO IMPLEMENTATION: A PROJECT DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

The PG Department of Computer Applications organized a workshop titled “From Idea to Implementation: A Project Development Workshop” on 24 June 2026 from 10:00 AM to 3:15 PM in the MCA Lab Room. The session was handled by Mr. Jismon Augustine and Ms. Roslin Thomas, who guided the students through various aspects of project development and documentation.



The workshop began with an introduction to the process of selecting an appropriate project topic. The resource persons explained the importance of identifying real-world problems and choosing innovative, feasible, and impactful project ideas. Students were encouraged to focus on projects that address practical needs while aligning with their areas of interest and technical skills.



The session then focused on Requirement Analysis, where the speakers discussed techniques for gathering, analyzing, and documenting project requirements. They emphasized the significance of understanding user needs, defining project scope, and preparing clear functional and non-functional requirements before commencing development.

A detailed discussion was held on the correct methodology for preparing a project report. The resource persons explained the structure of a standard project report, including the abstract, introduction, literature review, system analysis, system design, implementation, testing, results, conclusion, and references. Students were advised on maintaining proper formatting, documentation standards, and technical accuracy throughout the report.



As part of the workshop, students were divided into groups and provided with a sample project. Each group was asked to test the project thoroughly, identify problems and errors, and suggest new features for enhancement. This activity helped students understand the practical aspects of software testing, debugging, and feature improvement. The resource persons reviewed the group findings and provided valuable suggestions for improving the project.

The workshop also covered the importance of software testing and quality assurance. Various testing approaches and validation techniques were discussed to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of software applications.

Towards the end of the session, the resource persons shared their experiences and highlighted common mistakes made by students during project development and project report preparation. These included inadequate requirement analysis, poor documentation practices, lack of testing, improper project planning, and failure to clearly define project objectives. They provided practical recommendations to help students avoid these issues and improve the overall quality of their academic projects.

The workshop was highly interactive and informative, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the complete project development lifecycle—from idea generation to final implementation and documentation. The session concluded with an engaging interaction where students clarified their doubts and received valuable guidance for their future project work.
