A story about a Girl

In this post I am going to speak of a girl. A real life experience shared by Rev. Fr. Job, director of Chittoor Retreat Center.
There was this girl, lets say her name was Seema (fake name) for now. She was born and brought up in Palghat (Palakkad). She was the only child of her parents and they loved her very much. In this love, they never refused her anything she wanted. Now she completed her degree and wanted to go for MBA. She found a college for herself in Coimbatore and sought out a hostel with good facilities all by herself. Parents didn't interfere with her decisions. Classes started and Seema moved to the hostel in Comibatore. Parents couldn't stop thinking about her when she was away and both the father and mother used to call her atleast twice a day. One monday, the father was about to leave for work as usual. Before that he thought he would call his dearest daughter. When he called, the warden answered. She said that the daughter had left hostel and gone home yesterday evening. If so, she should have been at home yesterday evening itself (Coimbatore-Palghat journey takes just an hour) and she wasn't. After calling and enquiring some of her friends it was confirmed that she was missing. The parents naturally got worried. After two or three days, they filed missing person case with the police. A week passed and still there was no news of the girl. Thats when some friend of her father told him to search through the retreat centers in Kerala. At that time there were about 64 retreat centers in Kerala and they started calling each one. Atlast they found Seema at Chittoor. Hearing she was there, the parents rushed there. When the parents reached Chittoor, retreat classes were going on and Seema was called out to meet them. The parents were so sad and at the same time happy to find their daughter. Father asked her - " Daughter, why did you do this to us ???" For this her reply was - "Father, wait a second" and she went straight back inside and came back holding a guys hand and she said - "Father, this is my husband". The parents were really shocked and exclaimed - "We took all the pain to raise you till this age and you do this to us !!!". Now the girls reply is to be noted by everyone. She said - "Raising me was your duty, but this is my right" and went straight inside. The parents, left with no other option, had to return home with broken hearts. The story doesn't end there. On the way back, at a traffic signal, the poor father suffered from a heart attack and died, holding on to the steering wheel. The police there informed Chittoor retreat center about the incident. The director went and told Seema what happened. Her reply again was shocking and is to be noted. It was - "Father, that chapter is closed. It has got nothing to do with me" and she didn't even go to the poor father's funeral.
You readers are all free to find out morals of this real life incident and comment on it. But, girls please don't do this to your parents and guys beware of such girls, as they will bring you no good. - Posted by Kattooran.

The meeting started at 11.15 a.m., with a silent prayer and was followed by a presentation by Dr. Mendus Jacob, the MCA director and talks by principal, manager and wardens of the hostels. The vote of thanks was proposed by our tutor, Mr. Win Mathew John. Also the meeting included the launching of a department e-newsletter. The meeting was over by 1.30 p.m. and then lunch was provided for the parents in the boys hostel mess. In short, the meeting provided a good opportunity for the parents to interact with the teachers and the hostel wardens and aprise the performance of their child. - Posted by Lijo Devasia.

5 Day Retreat Program

Today morning Santo Sir announced in the class that we are having a five day retreat program starting this friday at Chittoor. As usual with sudden announcements, this also started rumors in the class. Girls started complaining about not having cloths to wear, and that it should have been announced at least in the last week. And again as usual, that wouldn't change the decision already made. (But we did get a compensation. We have the remaining two days, after the retreat, in the next week, holidays.) So, anyways, we are going to the retreat. Then, again, in the evening Santo Sir gave yet another surprise. We are going to the retreat with our juniors. With this, guys are all now in doubt as to what spiritual environment we will get there and all are now in a mood to enjoy rather than spiritually attending it. Anyways, i pray to God, to give us some worthwhile time there. - Posted by Kattooran.

Outreach Program of 2007 - 10 batch

On the 2nd of July 2009, 2007 - 10 MCA batch (again my batch) conducted an outreach program to Penuel Ashram, Thambalakkadu. The Penuel Ashram is a home for homeless mentally retarded persons. Before continuing any further, let me say that, it was raining cats and dogs on that day. It had its effects on our program. Anyways, we reached the Ashram by around 10.30 in the morning. Penuel Ashram is not an easy to reach place. From Kanjirapally you have to travel by bus which is available every half an hour or so and then walk from the bus stop to the Ashram, which is one km away. So once we were there, we had an introductory talk by Mr. Geroge Kutty Augusty. His talk mainly dealt with the problems faced by the youth of today, who have all the possible resourses available to them but are not still using them. He also said about those ladies(the word he used for ladies was 'ammachi') who never get old in their dressing, who still wear salwars after their 40s and 50s. This made us all turn our heads towards Reny miss, who unfortunately was wearing a salwar that day. After the talk we started to mingle with the inmates and help them with their needs. We cleaned the Ashram surroundings and helped them wash the plates. But again the rain stopped us from doing much help. Still it gave us a sense of satisfaction and joy and an experience that could never go away from us. In the evening before we left, a cultural show was organised where the inmates showed us their talents and we showed ours to them. To tell you the truth, if the show was a competition, the inmates would have won fair and clear. I would like to thank the Marian management for giving us such a wonderful opportunity to experience such wonderful persons. - Posted by Kattooran.
