The PG Department of Computer Applications organized a Counselling Orientation Session for the students of II MCA on 23 June 2026 from 12:30 PM to 1:35 PM in the II MCA Classroom. The session was led by Ms. Anna Marie Nainan, Counsellor, Department of Health and Wellness.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about mental health, stress management, and the counselling services available in the college. The session was conducted under the theme “Thriving or Surviving: Learning to Cope with Stress and Anxiety.”
Ms. Anna Marie Nainan began the session by discussing the concept of stress and anxiety and their impact on students’ academic and personal lives. She explained the different types of stress and highlighted how stress can affect physical health, emotional well-being, academic performance, and interpersonal relationships.
The resource person elaborated on the major causes of stress among students, including academic pressure, examinations, time management challenges, career concerns, family expectations, and social influences. She encouraged students to recognize the early signs of stress and seek support whenever necessary.
A significant part of the session focused on the 5 C’s of Stress Management, which provide practical strategies for managing stress effectively. Through examples and real-life situations, she explained how students can develop healthy coping mechanisms and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
The session also provided an overview of the College Counselling Services offered through the Department of Health and Wellness. Ms. Anna Marie Nainan introduced the counselling team and explained the role of counsellors in supporting students' emotional, psychological, and academic well-being. She emphasized the importance of seeking professional guidance without hesitation whenever students face difficulties.
An interactive session followed, during which students actively participated by sharing their concerns and asking questions related to stress, anxiety, academic challenges, and personal development. The resource person addressed the queries thoughtfully and provided practical suggestions for maintaining mental wellness.
The Counselling Orientation Session was highly informative and beneficial. It helped students gain a better understanding of stress management techniques, the importance of mental health, and the support systems available within the college. The programme concluded with positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the valuable insights and guidance provided during the session.
