One-Day Workshop on Introduction to Amazon Web Services (AWS)

One-Day Workshop on Introduction to Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Venue: MCA 1
Dates: 28/01/2026
Time: 8:30AM to 01:30 PM
Resource Persons: Mr Szen John

The PG Department of Computer Applications, Marian College Kuttikkanam (Autonomous), organized a one-day workshop on “Introduction to Amazon Web Services (AWS)” for the MCA Batch 2025–27 on 28 January 2026, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The session was handled by Mr. Szen John, Technical Services, IPSR Solutions.

The workshop began with an introduction to basic networking concepts, where the resource person explained fundamentals such as IP addresses, network communication, and how data travels over the internet. To enhance understanding, he used hand-drawn examples to clearly demonstrate IP addressing and network flow, making the concepts easy to grasp for beginners.

The session then progressed to cloud computing fundamentals, covering what cloud computing is, its advantages over traditional systems, and an overview of AWS as a cloud service provider. Key components such as compute resources, storage, and RAM (memory) were explained in relation to real-world server requirements. The differences between physical servers and cloud-based virtual machines were also discussed.

A major highlight of the workshop was the practical demonstration of creating an EC2 instance in AWS. Mr. Szen John guided students step by step through the process of launching an instance, explaining instance types, storage allocation, and memory usage. He also discussed real-world scenarios, including what happens when instances crash, become unresponsive, or face delays, and how such issues are handled in cloud environments.

By noon, students gained hands-on conceptual exposure to AWS infrastructure, instance management, and cloud reliability concepts. The session was interactive and informative, helping students build a strong foundation in AWS, networking, and cloud computing basics.

The workshop concluded with valuable insights into cloud technologies and their importance in modern IT careers, making it a highly beneficial learning experience for the participants.
