On August 2 1, 2 02 4, we had the pleasure of hosting M r. Lijo Devasia, an esteemed  alumnus from the MCA batch of 2008 -11. The meet provides an invaluable opportunity for current students to connect with a successful graduate and gain insights from his personal experiences. The meeting was brief but highly impactful. M r Lijo took the time to share his journey since graduating, focusing on his career path and the lessons he has learned along the way.



Mr.Lijo detailed his career trajectory, starting from his initial job search after graduation to his current role. He emphasized the importance of pe reverence and adaptability in the professional world. He shared practical advice on navigating the job market, including how to identify and pursue opportunities that align with one 's passions and skills. His experiences under the significance of finding a job that not only provides financial stability but also personal fulfilment.



He stressed that job satisfaction is a key factor in long-term success and happiness. M r. Lijo responses were tho thoughtful and inspiring, providing practical tips and motivational insights that resonated with many attendees.

On August 19, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Joji Joseph, an esteemed alumnus from the MCA batch of 2013-16. The meet provided an invaluable opportunity for current students to connect with a successful graduate and gain insights from his personal experiences. The meeting was brief but highly impactful. Mr. Joseph took the time to share his journey since graduating, focusing on his career path and the lessons he has learned along the way.

Green Horizons: Pathway to a Sustainable Future

Outcome e: The PG Department of Computer Application, in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Development, organized an enlightening session titled "Green Horizons:


The event titled "Pathway to a Sustainable Future" took place on August 14, 2024, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Magis Mini Auditorium, Marian College Kuttikkanam.


The session was led by Dr. TV Muralivallabhan, an esteemed Director at the Marian Institute of Management and Centre for Sustainable Development. Dr. Muralivallabhan delivered a thought-provoking lecture focusing on the critical issue of sustainability, highlighting the ever-present tug of war between limited resources and unlimited human wants.



Dr. Muralivallabhan's presentation was highly informative and accessible, ensuring that even complex concepts were conveyed in a manner that was easy to understand for all attendees. His insights into sustainable development and the challenges we face in balancing resource consumption with environmental preservation left a lasting impact on the audience.



In addition to the lecture, the program also included the inauguration of the "Eco Book Vision," a new initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among the community. Overall, the "Green Horizons" program was a resounding success, providing valuable knowledge and inspiration for all who participated, reinforcing the importance of sustainable development in our modern world. .

Red Hat Mastery Bootcamp

The Red Hat Mastery Bootcamp, led by Szen John P, focused on Linux programming and associated opportunities. As a Red Hat Certified Instructor and expert in cloud and DevOps training, Szen John P. brought in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience to the class.



In the session we got an overview of Linux operating system fundamentals, introduction to the Linux command line interface, basic scripting techniques and some hands on exercises like writing and executing simple shell scripts, understanding file system navigation and manipulation, exploring Linux programming tools and environments. Then discussed about career paths and industry opportunities in Linux and DevOps.



The bootcamp provided valuable insights into Linux programming, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Szen John P.’s expertise facilitated a comprehensive understanding of Linux systems, programming practices, and career opportunities in the field. Participants gained practical experience that will aid in their professional development and enhance their technical skills in Linux and DevOps.

INTERACTION WITH ALUMNI

On 12th August 2024, we, the first-year students of the MCA program at Marian College Kuttikkanam, had the privilege of hearing from Joyce and Melby, two graduates from the 2018 batch, as they shared their experiences and insights from their time at the college and their subsequent careers in the IT field. Their stories and advice provided us with valuable perspectives on what to expect and how to make the most of our MCA journey.



Joyce and Melby began by discussing the rigorous academic environment at Marian College. They emphasized how the curriculum was designed to not only impart technical knowledge but also to develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Both highlighted the importance of staying consistent with studies and making use of the resources provided by the faculty. They recounted how the assignments, projects, and exams were challenging yet rewarding, pushing them to explore beyond the textbooks. They particularly appreciated the practical exposure they gained through various lab sessions and hands-on projects, which they believe prepared them well for the professional world.



After completing their MCA, Joyce and Melby transitioned smoothly into the IT field, thanks to the strong foundation laid during their time at Marian College. They shared how their initial experiences in the industry were both challenging and rewarding. Joyce mentioned that the real-world projects she worked on required her to quickly adapt to new technologies and methodologies, which was a steep learning curve but ultimately very fulfilling. Melby highlighted the importance of continuous learning in the IT industry, noting that the skills they acquired during their MCA were just the beginning. Both emphasized that the industry is fast-paced, and staying updated with the latest trends and technologies is crucial for career growth. They also shared insights into the collaborative nature of IT work, where teamwork and effective communication play key roles in the success of projects.



Joyce and Melby’s experience at Marian College Kuttikkanam and their subsequent careers in the IT field have been overwhelmingly positive. They left us with the message that success in the MCA program and in the IT industry requires dedication, continuous learning, and the willingness to seek out and utilize the resources available. The opportunities presented to us at Marian College, with an eye on building successful careers in the IT field.

Freshers Day

On August 8, 2024, the MCA department celebrated Freshers' Day, a tradition designed to welcome and integrate the new batch of 1st-year postgraduate students into the academic community. The event was orchestrated by the 2nd-year MCA students, who took on the responsibility of hosting and organizing the day’s activities. The occasion served as both a warm welcome and an opportunity for the freshers to get acquainted with their peers and the department’s culture.




A series of interactive games were conducted to help break the ice and encourage mingling. They appreciated the effort put in by the 2nd-year students and felt more at ease navigating their new environment. The ice-breaker activities and cultural performances were particularly well-received, helping them to connect with their peers.



Freshers' Day 2024 was a successful and memorable event, setting a positive tone for the incoming batch of MCA students. The day achieved its objectives of welcoming the new students, facilitating interaction, and introducing them to the MCA community. The 2nd-year students demonstrated exemplary leadership and organization, contributing to a seamless and enjoyable experience for all involved.
