On 12th August 2024, we, the first-year students of the MCA program at Marian College Kuttikkanam, had the privilege of hearing from Joyce and Melby, two graduates from the 2018 batch, as they shared their experiences and insights from their time at the college and their subsequent careers in the IT field. Their stories and advice provided us with valuable perspectives on what to expect and how to make the most of our MCA journey.

Joyce and Melby began by discussing the rigorous academic environment at Marian College. They emphasized how the curriculum was designed to not only impart technical knowledge but also to develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Both highlighted the importance of staying consistent with studies and making use of the resources provided by the faculty. They recounted how the assignments, projects, and exams were challenging yet rewarding, pushing them to explore beyond the textbooks. They particularly appreciated the practical exposure they gained through various lab sessions and hands-on projects, which they believe prepared them well for the professional world.

After completing their MCA, Joyce and Melby transitioned smoothly into the IT field, thanks to the strong foundation laid during their time at Marian College. They shared how their initial experiences in the industry were both challenging and rewarding. Joyce mentioned that the real-world projects she worked on required her to quickly adapt to new technologies and methodologies, which was a steep learning curve but ultimately very fulfilling. Melby highlighted the importance of continuous learning in the IT industry, noting that the skills they acquired during their MCA were just the beginning. Both emphasized that the industry is fast-paced, and staying updated with the latest trends and technologies is crucial for career growth. They also shared insights into the collaborative nature of IT work, where teamwork and effective communication play key roles in the success of projects.

Joyce and Melby’s experience at Marian College Kuttikkanam and their subsequent careers in the IT field have been overwhelmingly positive. They left us with the message that success in the MCA program and in the IT industry requires dedication, continuous learning, and the willingness to seek out and utilize the resources available.
